Propane Cylinder Pitting
The pitting on the top of this cylinder resulted in its removal from service. Pitting is the result of rust and moisture over a period of time. When a bottle has pitting such as this, it is beyond repair and must be removed from service. Propane bottle users can prevent pitting by properly storing their cylinders when not in use. Additionally, cylinder service life can be extended by keeping cylinders painted and clean. If rust begins to develop, users can use a wire brush or something similar to remove the rust and paint over the cleaned area to preserve the integrity of the container.
